All robots take 3 AAA batteries and the remote uses a CR2032 button battery. Can be used with up to 4 robots at once....just pair the robots separately and pairs best if done in separate locations. Set has been well loved by 2 boys so there are some minor defects that don't affect use. Tested all robots and remotes 3 months ago and were all functioning properly. Prior it had been stored on the top closet shelf for about a year.
