BAPS" refers to a company that created dolls after World War II in Germany, founded by Hilda Bartell and Edith Von Arps. They created the company to make money after the war, selling their dolls, mostly on military bases, or even bartering them for cigarettes. Edith Von Arps was the business person of the BAPS company, while Hilda Bartell was the artist. The pieces are made of felt, cloth, and wire which makes them pose-able. The faces are hand-painted. The detail on each piece is remarkable! Most of these pieces did not survive the war and are very rare. All pieces are in pristine condition for their age!
